The Intuitive Business Cycle: How to Tell Which Phase Your Business Is Actually In

Every quarter I sit down with my community and we plan the next three months.
And every quarter, before anybody writes down a single priority, I teach the same thing first.
Not as a warm-up. Because a list of priorities is close to useless until you know which phase you're actually in. The same task can be exactly right in one phase and a complete waste of a quarter in another.
Where this came from
I started working with moon magic around 2017, so I've been at this about nine years now.
The part that caught me was the four phases. New moon, first quarter, full moon, last quarter. Once you start looking, that pattern is everywhere. It runs in menstrual cycles. It runs in a single day. It runs in every kind of cycle I could find.
So I stopped thinking of it as a moon thing and started thinking of it as a cycle of creation. I've used it for healing, for manifesting, for building, for almost everything I've done since.
You can watch it inside one ordinary day. Morning is where you set your intentions and write the list. Then you move into actually checking things off. By lunch you look up and see what genuinely got done. And by evening you're reflecting, deciding what tomorrow needs.
Which left me with the question I kept circling for a long time. We are creating every single day in our businesses. So how do these four phases apply to the business itself?
That question is why I built The Intuitive Business Cycle™.
The four phases
Spark is the new idea phase. Following the pull toward whatever wants to be born. Setting the intentions, setting the goals, letting the new idea take up space. Spark is about the ideas you're about to move toward.
Shape is the building phase. Forming the offer, the method, the container. This is where you're actually checking off the to-do list and making something take form in your business.
Sell is the visibility phase. Launching, inviting, letting people in. Manifesting the money and manifesting the visibility, selling the thing you had the idea for and then shaped.
Shift is the evolution phase. Integrating what happened and becoming what comes next. I ran a launch, nothing sold, so what now? A different marketing angle. Maybe a new bonus. Maybe a new positioning, a new way of talking about it entirely. Sometimes it's throwing the whole idea out and creating a new one.
Your phase picks your priorities
Once you know your phase, the right priority gets obvious.
In Spark, the priority is to run an experiment. Test the idea small before you build it big. Test a four-week tarot circle with five founding members before you build the whole membership.
In Shape, the priority is to finish the container. One offer, complete, before anything new gets started. Finish the client welcome sequence and the intake form for the mentorship offer.
In Sell, the priority is to get seen every day. Transformation Visibility is the job and everything else waits. Post three times a week and pitch your readings in every post until you book ten new clients.
In Shift, the priority is to review and prune. Decide what evolves and what gets set down. Audit which offers actually made money last quarter and drop the one that didn't.
It runs at two speeds
All four phases move through your business every day, and again every quarter.
Your business as a whole can also be sitting in one phase. If you're not selling yet, your business may be living in Spark or Shape right now.
That is completely okay. A phase is a location, never a grade.
The question that makes this useful
Here's what I actually want you to ask.
Do you end up staying in one of these phases more than the others? Is there one you gravitate toward because it's comfortable, and one you quietly skip?
Mine is Shift. I'll say that plainly, because I avoided it for years.
I cannot tell you how many times I tried to sell something that didn't sell, and then just kept doing the same thing over and over. Same offer, same pitch, same everything, without ever stopping to change it, refine it, or ask what needed to evolve and what I should build instead.
Skipping Shift is expensive. You pay for it with entire quarters.
How to use this in your own planning
Before you set your priorities for the quarter, write them all out. Then sort each one into its phase.
The sorting is where the insight lives. You'll see very quickly which phase you've loaded up and which one has nothing in it at all.

If you want to move faster, hand the phase graphic to your AI and ask it directly: which phase would each of my priorities fall into? It's a two-minute exercise and it tends to name the pattern before you're ready to admit it.
Then look at the empty column and ask yourself honestly whether that phase is empty because your business genuinely doesn't need it this quarter, or because it's the one you'd rather not do.
Inside Soul-Forged Founders, we run this planning together every quarter, alongside 450+ members building and selling their work in real time.
